PSG captain reveals special 'hunger' ahead of European Super Cup match

Marquinhos insists PSG's appetite for trophies remains intact ahead of the European Super Cup clash with Aston Villa, even though preparations have not been perfect.

PSG enters the European Super Cup match against Aston Villa as the favorites, but what Marquinhos wants to emphasize before kick-off is not about the trophies already won. The captain of the Parisian club speaks of something else: the "hunger" for victory remains intact.

"We want to win the cup. That is very important. The goal is to keep winning, keep collecting titles and make history. Although we won many trophies last season, we will keep moving forward because that is the mentality of Paris Saint-Germain.", Marquinhos shared before the match.

That ambition is also taken to a higher level by Luis Enrique. In an interview with UEFA, the Spanish coach stated that past successes are now just history. PSG's next goal is to conquer every trophy, with the ultimate aim of winning the Champions League three seasons in a row, thereby replicating the feat that Real Madrid achieved under Zinedine Zidane.

However, "hunger" does not mean that PSG is entering the Super Cup in perfect condition.

The preparation of the Champions League winners has been significantly disrupted after the World Cup. Luis Enrique said that some players only returned to training at the start of the week, while others had only joined the squad a few days earlier. He himself admitted that he cannot yet know exactly what condition his players will be in when they take the field in Salzburg.

That is also why Luis Enrique does not expect PSG to hit peak form at the start of the season. Marquinhos admits that his coach understands the team may not immediately show its best version, but the message to the dressing room remains unchanged: PSG must keep moving forward and seek new titles.

Aston Villa themselves are a big enough warning. Marquinhos still remembers the difficulties PSG faced when facing the English side in the Champions League. Vitinha even recalled the second leg two seasons ago, especially the tough period in the second half, to emphasize that Aston Villa is always a very unpleasant opponent.

But perhaps it is precisely such challenges that suit the message Luis Enrique once gave to PSG. Marquinhos also recalls a special message that Luis Enrique conveyed to the PSG dressing room from his very first days working in Paris.

"When Luis Enrique arrived, he said we had to climb Everest. We did that, but we are still climbing and he will not let us go down.", Marquinhos shared.

The European Super Cup therefore is not just an opportunity to add another trophy to the collection. For PSG, Aston Villa could be the first challenge of a new journey, where the pressure on the champions is increasingly greater and the "Everest summit" set by Luis Enrique also seems to grow higher.
