Manchester United emerged victorious in a penalty shootout 6-5 against Leeds United to claim the trophy! Carrick focused on giving substitutes game time, while Maguire rested and was not injured.

During the warm-up match in Dublin, United drew 1-1 after 90 minutes and triumphed 5-4 in the shootout, securing their second friendly trophy. The number 11 players from each side scored: Zirkzee struck first, only for Aaronson to equalize soon after. United captain Fernandes had a goal disallowed for being offside.

With two games in a week, 33-year-old Maguire was rested as Carrick wanted to give more minutes to other players. The £80 million defender trained on Wednesday morning with non-playing teammates including Lisandro Martinez, Rashford, and Kobbie Mainoo, who all returned from World Cup duties this week.

Maguire will play in Saturday's final friendly against AC Milan. Carrick chose Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro as the center-back pairing against Leeds, with academy prospect Dan Ammer on the bench. Midfielder Mason Mount was also absent from the squad due to a foot injury from the previous match, and he did not train normally. However, United stressed that his condition is fine and his absence is precautionary, with the Premier League season starting in 10 days.

United also rested Luke Shaw and Shea Lacey, while Harry Amass, Tyler Fletcher, and Zirkzee started. Overall, there were more stars on the bench and in the stands! Just before halftime, Mbeumo had a chance to score again, but his shot from the right cut inside hit the crossbar. Nevertheless, the Cameroonian international is almost certain to be United's starting striker for the Premier League opener.

After the break, Leeds fielded more of their stronger players. United's summer signing, winger Tynan Thompson, who cost £8 million, came off the bench for his debut. Thompson wore the number 27 jersey and entered the pitch at halftime.

Around the 60th minute, Carrick also brought on Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, Tielemans, and Cunha for match practice.

In the dying moments, as many as five fans ran onto the pitch to take photos with players, without any interference, making the scene quite lively.

Bruno Fernandes scored just before the end, but he had started his run too early and was offside, so the goal was disallowed. The match ended 1-1. Since there was a sponsor's trophy to be awarded, both teams went to a penalty shootout.

Substitute goalkeeper Dermot Mee saved a penalty from Leeds new signing Harry Wilson in the second round, but Bruno Fernandes missed his spot-kick in the fourth round. After five rounds, the score was 4-4, leading to sudden death.

Leeds' James Justin hit the crossbar, and Mazraoui scored the decisive penalty, giving United a 6-5 win on aggregate.

United manager Carrick said after the match: "In the first half we were very threatening and could have scored multiple goals. Our performance was excellent, but Leeds got back into the game. In the second half, we made some changes and it was important to give players minutes. The young guys did very well and met all our expectations. Winning a trophy is always good."

Zirkzee, playing as a number 10, scored again, which might increase his chances of a summer transfer. Meanwhile, Mount's injury and Fletcher's mistake once again highlighted United's need for a specialist defensive midfielder.
