Unsurprisingly, PSG continues to be rated by Opta as the top candidate for the title.
The capital club won the championship in 68.1% of simulations, a rate that is far superior to the rest. However, this figure has dropped significantly from 78.7% before the 2025/26 season.
Part of the reason is that PSG is no longer as dominant as before. Last season, they lost up to 6 matches in Ligue 1, while Lens kept the pressure on for most of the campaign.
However, the professional statistics still show the overwhelming strength of the champions. PSG has an average ball possession of 68.9%, the highest among the top five European leagues, and leads Ligue 1 in goals (74), shots (602), and touches in the opponent's penalty area. Luis Enrique's defense also conceded only 29 goals, the fewest in the league.
The team rated as having the greatest chance to challenge PSG is Lens. The runner-up from last season won the title in 9.7% of simulations and has a 19.4% chance of finishing the season in second place. These are still impressive numbers despite Lens having a turbulent summer with coach Pierre Sage moving to Crystal Palace and midfielder Mamadou Sangaré joining Brentford.
Behind Lens are Lille with a 4.5% chance of winning the title, Lyon 3.8%, Monaco 3.4%, Marseille 2.9%, and Rennes 2.8%. These are also the candidates for Champions League spots alongside PSG's almost guaranteed place.
Lens ranks second in terms of qualification chances with a rate of 44.8%, but having to also compete in the Champions League could be a major challenge for a squad that has lost some key players.
Lille has a 26.9% chance of making the Champions League group under the guidance of Davide Ancelotti. However, they risk losing young talent Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is attracting interest from Man City.
Lyon is rated at 23.2%, slightly ahead of Monaco with 22.8%. Marseille, after parting ways with Mason Greenwood, has a 21% chance of a Champions League spot, while Rennes is at 20.2%. Meanwhile, Strasbourg follows with 12.7%. Toulouse is also given an 8.8% chance, showing that the gap among the teams competing behind PSG is still relatively tight and unpredictable.
At the bottom of the table, Opta highlights a rather notable name.
Not the two newcomers Troyes or Le Mans, but Angers is the team predicted to face the most danger. The club that finished 13th last season was ranked last in 20.7% of simulations and has a 35.9% chance of direct relegation.
Le Mans is right behind with a relegation rate of 29.2%. This newcomer also has a 16% chance of finishing the season in last place. Ligue 2 champion Troyes is also predicted to be in a relegation fight, while Le Havre has a 22% chance of relegation.
Even more notable is Nice. After unexpectedly having to play a relegation playoff last season, the team that finished 4th in Ligue 1 in the 2024/25 season continues to be placed in the danger zone by Opta with a 17.7% chance of relegation and an 8.7% chance of having to play the playoff again.
Meanwhile, Paris FC is predicted to have a relatively safe season in mid-table. The team under former Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior even has a 20.8% chance of breaking into the top six.
